Former Abalone diver and Lobster fisherman Brian Franklin planted Apsley Gorge in the early 1990’s with the first vintage in 1993.

The wine was then made in Hobart by Andrew Hood and when Brian opened his Bicheno Winery in 1999 he took over the winemaking and has done so there ever since.

Situated in the Apsley Valley about 14 kilometres from the township of Bicheno, Tasmania, the vineyard enjoys an excellent climate for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The winery sits on the seaside at “The Gulch” in Bicheno on one of the most spectacular positions of any winery in Australia.
